Who I am…

Being a native of California, my biggest artistic love affair is with scenes of Oaks and Redwood trees, mountains, golden rolling hills and the beach scenes at the Pacific Ocean.

For me growing up being creative was as natural as breathing. And it was my meditative escape and my medicine. I was given many opportunities to draw, paint, design, sew, and build things from a very early age. Learning how to safely use a table saw, lathe, and drill press tools in our garage wood shop left me feeling I could build anything. Learning how to use a sewing machine young led to my designing all sorts of clothing and accessories. Being creative felt equivalent to being alive.

I gravitated toward art classes in school, and got my BA in Fine Art from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1983. After a stint as a technical support engineer in Silicon Valley High Tech in the late eighties… I began painting murals in 1990; and began painting Plein Air oils outside in 2006. I used Photoshop & Illustrator to collage and alter photos for mock-ups, and in 2018, I began using Procreate on my iPad for creating and altering images.

My creative project areas of expertise include: Drawing, Painting, Photography, Jewelry, Ceramics, Sculpture, Woodworking; as well as Jewelry, Clothing & Costume Design, Interior and Furniture Design.

My main art focus in the past thirty years has been Wall Murals along with Street Paintings: large temporary murals drawn in vibrant artist’s pastels, in chalk on pavement. I also paint with chalk on canvas, then seal it with a liquid varnish which gives it a rich depth of an oil painting.

I particularly enjoy subtle smoothly blended techniques for compassionate faces, as well as playfully loose styles for spontaneous freeform background images of plant life and distance. I love the uplifting aspect of painting a scene of nature which transforms a flat surface into an uplifting vision that lets you feel you could walk into it; it brings life and levity to those who view it.

This site is a collection of my various art creations, as my portfolio. Enjoy the view.
